Having been successful in the point fighting circuit, my instructor Mr. Ted Soliday, 9th DAN, suggested that I try full contact fighting! My first full contact fight was in a rodeo arena in my home town in 1998. The ring was set up on top of the dirt in the arena. After a second round TKO win, I realized I could get to like this! 8 years and more than 30 professional fights later, I still find myself doing what I love. As a Native American and professional fighter, I'm proud to make my heritage part of what I show in the ring. It is a big part of my life. Both of my grandparents were full blooded Native Americans, as is my mother. My Indian name is Nabishkata, which means leader. I strive to be a leader both inside and outside the ring. In my efforts training today's youth, I've worked hard to be an example they can look up to, and an example by which my parents and family can be proud. My Mother's maiden name is "Warrior", and so I take great pride in bringing that with me to the ring. Once you've had to stand across the ring from me and look into my eyes, you'll see that you are fixin' to be in a war. Once it is over, you'll understand and you'll know that you have come across a true warrior. |
